Caesar Salad

Updated: Mar 21

Caesar Salad is a globally popular dish, known for its delicious, fresh taste and Italian creativity. It was invented in the early 20th century by the Italian brothers and restaurateurs Caesar and Alex Cardini, between Mexico and the USA. Thanks to the Cardini brothers, we continue to enjoy this salad in restaurants, brunch bars, and at home.

Good to know

To prepare Caesar salad, use a meat tenderizer hammer to flatten the chicken breasts, or place the meat between two sheets of cling film and gently pound it with a rolling pin until it is 1 cm thick.

Ingredients serves 4-6

  1. Chicken breasts, sliced and flattened, 3-4

  2. Romaine lettuce, 2 hearts

  3. Cherry tomatoes, 10-15

  4. Bread, ciabatta or farmhouse bread, 4 slices cut into cubes 1.5-2 cm

  5. Garlic, chopped cloves, 2

  6. Anchovies, chopped fillets in oil, 4

  7. Mayonnaise, 4-6 tbsp

  8. Lemon juice, 2 tbsp

  9. Parmesan cheese, shredded, 50 g

  10. Cold water, 5-6 tbsp

  11. Extra virgin olive oil, 2 tbsp

Let's Jump To The Method

Prepare all ingredients ahead of time and arrange them in your workspace.

  1. Pound the chicken breasts to a 1 cm thickness and season with salt and pepper.

  2. In a sufficiently large non-stick frying pan, brush with olive oil and cook the flattened chicken breasts for 3 minutes on each side until browned. Set them aside to rest.

  3. Begin preparing the salad dressing. Place the garlic and anchovies in a mortar and crush into a paste. Add the mayonnaise and lemon juice, then mix together. Finally, add water until it reaches a pourable, creamy consistency.

  4. Prepare the romaine lettuce by thoroughly washing it. Separate each leaf and dry them using a salad spinner or gently with kitchen paper or a clean kitchen towel.

  5. Roughly chop the leaves and place them on a salad serving plate.

  6. Toast slices of bread to your liking (such as ciabatta or farmhouse bread), cut them into cubes, and add to the lettuce.

  7. Incorporate the tomatoes, bread, and shredded parmesan cheese.

  8. Slice the chicken into 1.5 cm thick strips, add them to the salad, and toss with all other ingredients on the serving plate.

  9. Drizzle the dressing over the salad. Toss again, and it's ready.

  10. Serve the Caesar Salad and enjoy your meal!
